DENTAL, VISION, AND HEARING

Most health insurance plans provide minimal coverage for dental, vision, and hearing care. While medical procedures relating to your eyes, ears, and mouth may be covered by your policy, many other important things may not be included. To maximize your dental, vision, and hearing health, you can get affordable insurance plans to cover these out of pocket expense.

DENTAL INSURANCE

Dental insurance can help you effectively afford the dental care needed to maintain a healthy set of teeth. Compared to medical insurance, dental insurance is very inexpensive and quite cost effective. The downside to dental insurance is that many of the plans have benefit payout limits that cap how much the policy will pay for covered procedures. Sometimes dental insurance can be purchased as part of a medical insurance plan, but oftentimes you will be required to purchase this coverage independently.

Most dental insurance plans have a network of dentists who you can see at a lower cost. While you may have to option to see out-of-network dentists, we don’t suggest doing so as it will be far more expensive. By choosing an in-network dentist, you can save significantly. In general, your end cost for dental insurance will vary depending on your location and the plan you choose, but for many people, the cost ranges around $50 a month.

It is also important to note that dental insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures, such as teeth whitening, tooth shaping, or veneers. These procedures are only intended to make you look better, and are not medically necessary, so they must be paid for entirely by the patient. In some cases braces may be covered, but there may be a waiting period associated with this procedure.

VISION INSURANCE

If you are someone who wears glasses or contacts, vision insurance should be a great investment for you. With vision insurance, you can get access to low cost contacts, frames, and lenses in exchange for monthly premiums. Vision insurance does not cover you for medical procedures, like surgery, though. Vision insurance is mostly intended to help you with the purchase of eyewear and other eye-care related products, rather than paying for corrective surgery or medically necessary procedures.

HEARING INSURANCE

Sometimes you may need hearing insurance to cover the purchase of hearing aids and other hearing health related equipment. Hearing insurance, or hearing aid insurance, options vary from state to state, but in most cases you will have adequate options for hearing insurance plans. With hearing aid insurance, you won’t be getting help to pay for hearing related medical services, as those are covered by traditional health insurance plans.
